The Learning Centre in Ponsonby, also known as TLC, is a full day childcare centre, which provides the highest quality of care, with small group sizes, the best teacher to child ratios, and caring, dedicated and qualified teachers. In a villa in Ponsonby, the emphasis is on providing a homely, natural environment with healthy food, and genuinely caring caregiving. 

Full Time Kaiako Required

Are you a new graduate, or in training, and want to learn in a team of very experience Kaiako, and a quality centre that ticks all the boxes? OR, are you an experienced Kaiako and tired of a corporate environment, and searching for something with a better fit with your values and aspirations for tamariki that made you become a teacher in the first place?

At TLC: 

  • We have great ratios (1:3 for under 1s, 1:4 for 1-3, 1:7 for 3-6) 

    This means you get to teach rather than just do crowd control! 

  • We have small group sizes (7 for <18M, 8 for 18M-3Y, 27 for 3-6Y)

    This makes ALL the difference for quality, a room with 20 infants, will just never feel like quality. 

  • We are a 100% Qualified Centre, but we go beyond that, and exceed government ratios AND have primarily very experienced teachers (out of a team of 14 Kaiako 13 are on step 6 or above, and we have multiple teachers with 10 - 20+ years experience. ALL our Kaiako are lifelong learners. 

  • We opted into Pay Parity, even though with our experienced teachers, and exceeding funded ratios, this made NO sense financially. We did it because we value Kaiako and wanted to do our best by them. 

  • We practice Primary Caregiving, and Continuity Of Care, which means your knowledge of the tamariki and their whānau is so much deeper,  meaningful and rewarding.

Our commitment to RIE® is evident the mentoring approach used in daily practice with teachers, and the value we place on key caregiving, small group sizes and excellent ratios and continuity of care for children where possible. It is also our commitment in our Strategic Plan, that all Kaiako who are part of a continuity of care cycle, will attend the 10 day RIE Foundations Intensive, which can be both eye opening, and life changing.
